About

If you have direct ancestors or collateral lines that settled in, or passed through Iowa, the Iowa DNA Project  is for you.

The Iowa DNA Project welcomes all of those with a connection to the State of Iowa. This project uses genetic genealogy to connect DNA cousins to surnames (or variants) in our family tree database using historical records and other facts. The Iowa DNA Project focuses primarily on Family Finder test results to connect known and prospective DNA cousins, and their collateral lineages.

To support the goals of the Iowa DNA Project, practical help will be offered to assist members in understanding their results and taking charge of their genetic and family history research.  Collaboration between project members is encouraged and facilitated.

  1. Thank you for following my blog. I am just starting to dabble in DNA, and although I do not have many ties to Iowa, I still think I can learn from your blog. I did have one distant ancestor who lived in Des Moines in the late 19th century, but that’s about it.
